A Rainbow in My Fish Bowl
Wordspire Writer: Sumit Srinavasan | Aged 11 | Mumbai
On my study table sits a round glass fish bowl. It shines like a crystal bubble filled with water. Inside it, bright fish swim through the clear water like tiny jewels. The golden scales of the goldfish flash in the light, while a scarlet (bright red) guppy flicks its colourful tail like a ribbon in the wind. A cerulean (sky-blue) pebble rests quietly at the bottom, making the bowl look like a tiny ocean.
Whenever I feel tired after school, I glance at my fish bowl. The gentle movement of the fish feels like a peaceful painting that has come alive. An old proverb says, “Still waters run deep.” Watching the quiet bowl reminds me how calm and beautiful simple things can be.
A Hobby Loved by Famous People
Keeping fish at home is not only for students. Many famous people enjoy this peaceful hobby. The American entrepreneur Elon Musk has spoken about enjoying aquariums in relaxing spaces. The tech leader Bill Gates is also known to admire aquatic life in decorative home aquariums. Even the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has displayed beautiful fish tanks in his home. If such remarkable people enjoy watching fish, it shows that this hobby can bring calm to anyone’s busy life.
Where to Keep the Fish Bowl
A fish bowl should be placed somewhere easy to see. Mine sits beside my window where soft sunlight enters the room. Too much heat can harm the fish, so the bowl should not stand directly under strong sunlight. As the saying goes, “Too much of anything is good for nothing.”
A steady table or shelf works best. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Decorating the Bowl
The bottom of my bowl is covered with colourful pebbles that sparkle like gemstones. A tiny plastic plant sways in the water like green grass under the sea. The bowl looks tranquil (calm and peaceful) and mesmerising (so beautiful that it holds your attention).
Still, one must remember that too many decorations spoil the broth. Fish need space to glide smoothly through the water.
Easy Fish for Young Students
Some fish are perfect for beginners because they are easy to maintain:
- Goldfish – bright orange fish that are hardy and calm.
- Guppies – small fish with colourful flowing tails.
- White Cloud Mountain Minnows – tiny, active fish that adjust easily.
These fish are ideal for young students. Caring for them teaches responsibility because good things come to those who wait.
Taking Care of the Fish
Fish need only a small pinch of food each day. The moment the food touches the water, they rush towards it quick as a wink. The water must also be kept clean by changing a little every week. As the proverb wisely reminds us, “Cleanliness is next to godliness.”
A Tiny Ocean at Home
My fish bowl may be small, but it sparkles with life and colour. The fish glide gracefully through the water, turning the bowl into a tiny rainbow world.
This bowl reminds me of a beautiful proverb: “Little drops make the mighty ocean.” Even a small circle of water on a study table can fill a room with peace, colour, and quiet happiness.
