Save Water

Character Sketch: The Water-Wise Farmer

The farmer was a hardworking and resourceful (clever at solving problems) man who cared deeply for his crops and village. His sun-browned face and dusty brown clothes showed how many hours he spent working beneath the golden sun.

One summer, the blazing sun was as fierce as a hungry lion. The farmer watched sadly as his once emerald-green fields turned dull yellow and brittle. Although the terrible heat made him tired and thirsty, he remained determined (firmly decided). He refused to waste even a single drop of precious water.

The farmer was also innovative (good at creating useful new ideas). When he saw the crops wilting, an idea sparked like a tiny flame in his mind. He placed large drums outside to collect rainwater. Soon, the silver raindrops danced from the sky, filling the drums one by one. To him, every drop was a tiny pearl of life.

He was responsible and prudent (careful and wise). He used the collected water sparingly (in small, careful amounts) for drinking, cooking and watering his thirsty crops. He never allowed water to flow unnecessarily. Gradually, his fields wore their green coats once again, and the crops danced happily in the breeze.

The farmer’s perseverance (continuing despite difficulties) inspired the villagers. He showed everyone that water is more precious than gold and must never be wasted. Like a guardian of every drop, he protected nature’s precious gift.
